Sample Solution: Indoor Seismic Battery Racks

Telect indoor seismic battery rack, with integrated batteries and other power equipment as required.
Description:
The customer required housing for batteries and other power equipment in Zone 4 seismic location. Telect engineered a rack with versatile shelving to accommodate a broad range of items and fit in applications ranging from central offices and data centers to remote sites, wireless networks and elsewhere.
The Project:
Telect's Systems Integration team developed a modular system with the following key features:
- Capacity: Up to four strings of 170 amp-hour batteries and rectifier systems (approximately 2,500 lbs.)
- Provisions for mounting battery disconnect breakers (100A) on both the left and right sides of the battery tray. For 24 VDC systems both sides are used. For 48 VDC systems, only the left side has a disconnect breaker.
- Supports up to four battery trays with four 12V mono-block front terminal batteries on each shelf
- Provisions for mounting equipment (such as rectifier system) at the top of the rack. Minimum of 11 RU required @ 23" spacing.
- Provisions for mounting battery collector bars (both negative and positive) that allow the battery cables to be collected or terminated to the bar prior to connecting to the rectifier system. The bars are designed out of copper material and are plated or tinned, with a minimum of 10 two-hole lug connection points per bar. These bars are offered as an option depending on the rectifier system selected.
- Battery cables are designed for each shelf, both positive and negative, with appropriate lugs. Cables are labeled with battery string number and color coded (red for power, black for return). Cables are applicable for both 24 VDC and 48 VDC systems. Cable size is 2AWG.
- Proper restraints for Seismic Zone 4.
- Isolation pads and appropriate mounting hardware available.
